4 Ways to Get More Involved in 2024

Finding ways to get involved in your community can be a gratifying way to build connections, make new friends, explore new hobbies, and support others. But it can be hard to figure out where to start. Thankfully, downtown Fargo has no shortage of opportunities.

Volunteer Your Time

  • Coffee and Cocoa Crawl: Help check in attendees to kick off this Downtown Community Partnership event, then enjoy free attendance when you’re done!

  • Fargo-Moorhead Pride: Support the area’s LGBTQIA+ community by giving your time to events during FM Pride Week in August to make sure they go smoothly.

  • Fred’s Dissonance: Get involved in community-focused events designed to embrace our community’s diversity, like their annual Juneteenth celebration.

  • Great Plains Food Bank: Work occasional or regular shifts at the food bank’s Fargo warehouse distributing food.

  • Plains Art Museum: Connect with fellow creatives and art-lovers by becoming a docent to help facilitate one-of-a-kind events.

  • Rape and Abuse Crisis Center: Volunteering with this advocacy organization is a fulfilling and impactful way to uplift those in our community when they need it most.

  • Red River Market: Folkways will always welcome extra hands to help set up the market July-October for this staple neighborhood event.

  • River Keepers: Volunteering with River Keepers is perfect for anyone looking to have a measurable impact on the area’s environmental wellbeing.

  • Salvation Army: Give an hour of your time to serve hot meals to those in need.

Attend (or Teach!) Classes and Workshops

  • The 1889: Try your hand at a new recipe or cuisine with a cooking class at The 1889, downtown Fargo’s newest event space.

  • Parachigo: This community-centered space hosts a wide array of workshops as well as open mic nights, support groups, and more.

  • Plains Art Museum: Explore new creative media with classes at the Plains, including classes for all ages and skill levels.

  • The Rourke Art Gallery + Museum: Find carefully curated workshops at this delightful hub of creativity and art appreciation.

  • Scribble Lady: No drawing skills required for Scribble Lady’s iconic scribble night events, offering the opportunity to connect with creative folks and get inspired.

  • Unglued: The kings and queens of all things craft, Unglued is the perfect place to go for unique, intensely fun workshops of all kinds.
